Joe Madureira

Madureira Or Joe Mad to me is one of my inspirations for visual aesthetics when it comes comics. Specifically remaining on the visual spectrum of creativity, madureira for me is a great example of how to go about dealing with the problem of character creation with high quality line work and have elastic cartoony feel without sacrificing maturity in its overall presentation.

Madureira started his carrier at 16 as an illustrator for marvel comics (and was part of the 90s era of marvel comics with all its grit and edgyness), gaining popularity for his run on uncanny X-men. Being a part of the generation that grew around gaming culture madureira was (and still is) passionate about games in the genre of JRPGs, specifically Final Fantasy. This passion came out of his experience from playing other forms of roleplaying games such as dungeons and dragons at a younger age. (Tach, 2017)

Since he was a teenanger during the 90s I can infure that the most likely final fanticy games madurea wold have layed were final fanticy 5 – 8. (Thefinalfantasy.com, 2017)

He also points out himself that

“I’ve realized, that all that stuff I just talked about is the reason I am where I am today. Not because I have a manga style, or I draw cool hands, or there’s energy in my drawings, or all the other things people rattle off to me. There are other guys that do all that same shit, and do it better.”

His mention of a manga style as I thought his work was not that manga esce may only his eyes but the rest is very unique hard to place its influences will have to look deeper.

Yoshitaka Amano

(Amano, 2017)

"Once in charge of character design and illustration for Final Fantasy games" not so much anymore but he still does the designs for covers and logos. He has also done work for comics (Sandman: The Dream Hunters). (Plunkett, 2017)

I had the luxery of being able to read his book Amano which is full of wonderfully colurfull and expressive work.

(Amano and Miyaki, 2016)

In my research i managed to find a new influence onto my own work which is really exiting i also managed to watch "天野 嘉孝 - 1001 Nights" a shot film Based on Amano's Princess Budou illustrations. i recommend giving it a watch to have a sence of his work.
