Character development

Character development is one of the main pillars to storytelling allowing your character to change and adapt to change mimics real life, and most often than not allows for greater empathy of the readers half towards your character as struggling through challenges is something we all have to go through.

In these diagrams there is a repetitive cycle main characters of the majority of stories and even people psychological development go through as pointed out by American scholar Joseph Campbell.

The hero's journey

The writer for Rick and Morty Dan Harmon sticks to this format of storytelling for most of his episodes he details his own version of the heroes journey in a Facebook video (Facebook, 2017), wisecrack goes deeper with his a whole episode on the subject called How RICK & MORTY Tells A Story (The Risks Must Be Crazy) (Wisecrack, 2017) detailing how Rick and Morty flows the heroes tale. but also takes a look at the differences between storytelling in film and TV.
